Kihaku Shibas: Who we are and why we are

Saphira and Mashi

We at Kihaku Shibas, have a dream. We dream of helping to shape this magnificant treasure of a breed into a more understood and valued companion. Through proper breeding, training, and love, we strive to help this breed thrive in our home and the homes of anyone who has a dog we have touched. We believe that its not just about breeding a great dog but about the responsibility and companionship these dogs bring. With a wise mind and masterful wit they carve a spot in each life they touch. These dogs don't just warm your heart but impact your very soul. Finally, we don't believe that Shiba Inus are something just to be looked at like a piece of artwork. Shiba minds need to be challenged. Through proper training and a bit of patientice a Shiba can train to do almost anything.

All of our Shibas are trained in various sports including conformation, obedience, rally, lure coursing, and agility. And a very special few of our dogs are even training to serve a greater cause in Animal Assisted Therapy and Animal Assisted Activities.

If you have any questions about the breed, our dogs, our training, or anything Shiba, feel free to contact us anytime.

Ginger Home to Stay!!!

Updated: November 26, 2009

Ginger, our previous foster dog from NYC Shiba Rescue is home to stay. Fostered on and off by us, she came home and was offically adopted in October. She is now the elder of the house at 8 years old and tries to run the place like the queen she feels she is. She is a lovely dog and we hope to prove that no dog is to old to learn, have fun, and perhaps one day, compete. Look for more updates here and on our dog page.

Saphira Takes HIT Rally!!!

Updated: September 21, 2009

Saphira took High in Trial in Rally Obedience at the National Shiba Club of America's Companion Events Trial with a perfect 100 in Rally Novice! This was her first time in the Rally ring and we are very proud of her. We are sure she will get her RN in just 2 more shows but we are taking our time and enjoying therapy work for the time being. At the same show Mashi took 4th place in Rally Advance. Go Kihaku!

I have three shibas and a sweet mix breed gracing our family at this time. I will be breeding in the future but at this time we are working on training and titling our dogs.

I plan on breeding Saphira in the future and the stud will probably be Mashi but at this time it is still not set in stone. Mashi will father a litter some time in the future but that litter also is just in the planning stages. All of our dogs are having a great time just being dogs and earning their keep.

Rescue / Non Profit

Updated: August 13, 2008

If you are going to breed or purchase from a breeder, then you should support breed rescue as well. I go above and beyond this ethic. I foster 1-3 dogs at any time for NYC Shiba Rescue. I also volunteer my time as Director of Animal Welfare, watching over the care and training of all dogs in the rescue's foster care system.

If you are not going to help the homeless shibas in some form, please do not breed.
